Is a Blockchain Ledger Server a Node?

"assets are transferred between addresses under the control of different nodes"

By 'nodes', you mean blockchain ledger servers?  I thought the servers just kept the ledger, rather than control assets.  ?

If a MultiChain node has a private key in its wallet, it also controls any assets sent to the address corresponding to that private key. Essentially, MultiChain combines the functionality of a node and wallet in a single piece of software, for your convenience, even though these two parts have very different purposes. You can use an external wallet if you prefer.
