Key pair.

Question

If a wallet is not encrypted using walletpassphrase how and where are the key pairs stored? I believe its stored in the wallet.dat file but is the private key encrypted in this file or accessed as plain text from somewhere else? I am asking this because I am looking at overall security.

If you are not using walletpassphrase then the private keys are stored inside the wallet.dat file, and if someone gets their hands on this file, they can steal the keys.
