Can MCE connect to a different protocol chain?

I'm trying to connect the latest MCE with protocol `10006` to a chain that was created on protocol '10005'
Until now every time i started the chain explorer i was getting blank output and nothing was listening on the port i defined when i checked from a different terminal.
Note: i'm running with a copy of a config file from an earlier MCE version that works OK on a different machine connected to the same chain.
Is what i'm atempting possible?

For the MultiChain Explorer, the chain protocol shouldn't matter, so long as you're below 10007. So I don't think that would explain the issue you're seeing. Could this be a firewall issue with access to the port you defined for the Explorer?
