Couldn't retrieve blockchain parameters

+1 vote

I am stuck at Step 2 on http://www.multichain.com/getting-started/ where the Second Server's firing of multichaind chain1@000.000.000.000:0000 should tell "...the blockchain was successfully initialized, but you do not have permission to connect. You should also be shown a message containing an address in this node’s wallet...", but instead it tells the following:

"...Retrieving blockchain parameters from the seed node 000.000.000.000:0000 ...
Error: Couldn't retrieve blockchain parameters from the seed node 000.000.000.000
on port 0000.
For bitcoin protocol blockchains, the file C:\Users\xyz\AppData\Roaming\MultiChain\áchain1\params.dat must be copied manually from an existing node..."

Please advise.

This is likely a firewall issue – are you sure that the port (at the end of the node address) on the server running the first node is open for incoming connections?

Thanks for your answer.

I run the daemon again on my computer (first node) and it shows the same IP address and port.  Then I ask the other guy on the other computer (second node) to run the multichaind chain1@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:nnnn and he still gets the same error.  I ask him to telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:nnnn from his computer and it works OK for him.

Any idea?

Thanks!
First, you should both be using a recent version of MultiChain (preferably the latest). Second, please take a look at the debug.log file on both nodes, and post what you see relating to this connection attempt.
Thanks for the feedback.  We were originally using Alpha 26 when getting the error message in Dec 2016.  Now we both reinstall the Alpha 27 and our nodes are successfully connecting to each other.  Thanks!
Glad to hear it - thanks for the update!
