addmultisigaddress vs importaddress regarding multisig

Hi all,

Consider 2 nodes with public key pk1 and pk2. A multisig address ms1 is created on node1 using "addmultisigaddress" by combining pk1 and pk2.

As per the example https://www.multichain.com/developers/multisignature-transactions/, node2 should also use "addmultisigaddress" to add ms1 to its wallet.

However, since I don't want to reveal pk1 to node2, I tried using "importaddress ms1" but apparently the node2 wallet does not seem to recognised ms1 in later transactions.

Kindly help

Regards,

Is importaddress idempotent?

Each time when "importaddress" is executed, the transaction returns a new id from the output.

What is this id referring to and how what can it be used for?

What are the changes to the state of the blockchain when you run importaddress for an already imported address?

Are the implications to running importaddress multiple times or a call to importaddress is made a prior to every transaction?

importaddress related to multisig

Dear MC team,

could you clarify if I need to send importaddress command after addmultisigaddress?

According to RPC-API commands table, the addmultisigaddress already adds it to the wallet so I suppose that importaddress is not needed.

However in 'Multisignature transaction' chapter there are both of them.

Could you please clarify?

Thanks,

  Fabio

information about multisigaddress' addresses

Hi,

I would like to get the corresponding (single-signature-)addresses of a given multisigaddress. getaddresses true shows only the individual addresses if the multisigaddress was generated at the node with the pubkeys via addmultisigaddress. They are not shown when imported via importaddress.

importaddress and then getaddresses true gives me "addresses":[] - an empty list.

Is there any possibility for a node to get the addresses of any multisigaddress?

Using addmultisigaddress requires the pubkeys. So if the solution is to use addmultisigaddress with the pubkeys isn't really a solution because I don't know the addresses to ask for their pubkeys...

Thank you for enlightenment!

zolar

What are the common approaches to distribute watch-only address for other servers?

We want to create a private blockchain with multiple nodes. Addresses are to be generated outside MultiChain. We understand that we need to call importaddress as mentioned in https://www.multichain.com/developers/clustering-high-availability/.
Cold nodes and importaddress

Hi,

I understand that if I do not want to store private keys in each wallet's node, I can centrally generate address in a cold node then import it in one node by using importaddress command. The public key will be imported, the private one can be given to the user's address owner and he can use it to sign raw-transactions before sending them.

But the APIs documentation indicates that the importaddress command make the address as "watch-only" in the node.

So, if the address is "watch-only" and cannot spend funds in the node, how can it perform raw-transactions on the node ?

Thank you for your reply.

importaddress - Dynamically

Hi Team,

Is there any possible that importaddress dynamically. i.e If any new address created on any node in the network, should sync and this new addresses should be avil in any node.

Can do with some code also am fine. Just wanted to know the possible. In the real time one machine is having 10000 address and one new node is joining in the network, can't import manually those addresses on new node.

Thanks.

importaddress needs rescan or not to get balance?

I am using importaddress to import an address into a node, then running getaddressbalance or getmultibalances to get the asset balances i need for that address. In the future as the chain gets larger, when would I need to use -rescan, or perhaps not needed if I I am doing is getting a balance?

Any significant improvement to the watch-only address limit?

I'm building an application where there would be a 1:1 relationship between my users and watch-only addresses, as each watch-only address would represent a single user in my application. So I'm trying to figure out if I need multiple nodes, each with a finite number (1000-5000) of addresses, and thus multiple servers, each with 4-6 nodes depending on the server's specification, to avoid this degradation in performance in a scenario where I expect a high volume of users and a high volume of transactions.

Or should I perhaps consider another solution altogether?

Transact on another node

Hi,

Can I make a transaction on a different node from which the transacting address exists? For instance, two nodes A and B each with addresses having some assets. Can i transfer an address's assets from node B if the address was generated in node A.

I know the answer is No and one reason why is because the private key for the addresses are stored on their node. I am looking for additional reasons if there is as well as how to go around this for instance if I have the address, public key and private key copied to a file, and the node goes down, can i transfer the assets owned by that address from a different node?

Thanks.
importaddress with rescan

I ran the command one a new node: importaddress 1QVnD5amQ9EXdb2gcrTNPGwSp1o4Q68yoRGLzk '' false

In this case, the transactions associated with 1QVnD5amQ9EXdb2gcrTNPGwSp1o4Q68yoRGLzk is not updated in this node.

Then I want to update the transactions, so I ran

importaddress 1QVnD5amQ9EXdb2gcrTNPGwSp1o4Q68yoRGLzk '' true

but it did not work. how can i fix this?

Imported Address (watch only) Unspent Listing Issue/Bug

Dear Multichain,

I am facing issues related listing of transactions on an imported address. I think the issue have come up from the last two version of which are 23 and 22.

When the issue is noticed?

I am not very sure when it happens. I have observed it more when the node where is the address is imported is restarted, however I have observed the pattern at times without a restart process.

Details:

Example an address A which is managed by Node NODE_1 is imported in NODE_B with re scan set to true. The commands listaddresstransactions and listunspent provide same result on both the nodes.

However when the issue happens (which I am not sure how is it triggered) the following happens:

NODE_A shows proper listing in both the commands

NODE_B shows proper listing in listaddresstransaction but empty in listunspent

In some case NODE_B shows empty listing for both commands.

If validate address command is issued over address A in NODE_B it shows as valid address with true on watch only.

Most of the time to solve the issue, I have to restart NODE_B with reindex=1

I have created backup of the chain folder when it have reached the issue where listaddresstransaction works but listunspent doesn't. If required I can share.

I initially thought the issue is related to the new db version of the wallet so I degraded it, found the same issue.

Below are some of the info (simulation of issue):

NODE_B

multichain-cli pf2 validateaddress 1FC9HcFhXxooSTtBJj3cdAgauZMLD6quggHyFU

{"method":"validateaddress","params":["1FC9HcFhXxooSTtBJj3cdAgauZMLD6quggHyFU"],"id":1,"chain_name":"pf2"}

{

"isvalid" : true,

"address" : "1FC9HcFhXxooSTtBJj3cdAgauZMLD6quggHyFU",

"ismine" : false,

"iswatchonly" : true,

"isscript" : false,

"account" : "true"

}

---------------------

multichain-cli pf2 listaddresstransactions 1FC9HcFhXxooSTtBJj3cdAgauZMLD6quggHyFU 1 41

{"method":"listaddresstransactions","params":["1FC9HcFhXxooSTtBJj3cdAgauZMLD6quggHyFU",1,41],"id":1,"chain_name":"pf2"}

[

{

"balance" : {

"amount" : 0.00000000,

"assets" : [

---

.multichain$ multichain-cli pf2 listaddresstransactions 1FC9HcFhXxooSTtBJj3cdAgauZMLD6quggHyFU 1 42

{"method":"listaddresstransactions","params":["1FC9HcFhXxooSTtBJj3cdAgauZMLD6quggHyFU",1,42],"id":1,"chain_name":"pf2"}

[

]

-------

multichain-cli pf2 listunspent 0 800000 '["1FC9HcFhXxooSTtBJj3cdAgauZMLD6quggHyFU"]'

{"method":"listunspent","params":[0,800000,["1FC9HcFhXxooSTtBJj3cdAgauZMLD6quggHyFU"]],"id":1,"chain_name":"pf2"}

[

]

-----------

NODE_A

multichain-cli pf2 listaddresstransactions 1FC9HcFhXxooSTtBJj3cdAgauZMLD6quggHyFU 1 41

{"method":"listaddresstransactions","params":["1FC9HcFhXxooSTtBJj3cdAgauZMLD6quggHyFU",1,41],"id":1,"chain_name":"pf2"}

[

{

"balance" : {

"amount" : 0.00000000,

------

multichain-cli pf2 listaddresstransactions 1FC9HcFhXxooSTtBJj3cdAgauZMLD6quggHyFU 1 42

{"method":"listaddresstransactions","params":["1FC9HcFhXxooSTtBJj3cdAgauZMLD6quggHyFU",1,42],"id":1,"chain_name":"pf2"}

[

]

-------------

multichain-cli pf2 listunspent 0 800000 '["1FC9HcFhXxooSTtBJj3cdAgauZMLD6quggHyFU"]'

{"method":"listunspent","params":[0,800000,["1FC9HcFhXxooSTtBJj3cdAgauZMLD6quggHyFU"]],"id":1,"chain_name":"pf2"}

[

{

"txid" : "1ff3964c99504dc185047cb17312a784fdf25095d55de1a60896c83a56df1ea0",

"vout" : 0,

---------

Watch Only Address Limit

Is there a limit to the number of watch-only address you can import into a wallet before you start to see a degradation in performance?

My projected user base is between 2 -> 5 thousand and I need to decide if it's worth the overhead of building out a DB cache of wallet transactions for the user application or just load all the addresses into a multichain wallet and use that for transaction history and asset balances.

If scalability on the wallet is not a concern then that is the most straight forward approach.

watch-only-address behaviour query

Hi,

I have two nodes, Node-A and Node-B.

Node-A has issued an asset to an address X i.e 'issue X asset 100'

Node-B uses the command 'importaddress X addressToWatch true'

Node-B now has watch only permissions on address X

Node-A performs a, preparelockunspent '{"asset":10}'

Node-A performs gettotalbalances which results in;

{
       "name" : "asset",
       "assetref" : "3130-266-11667",
       "qty" : 90.00000000
},

Node-B performs, gettotalbalances 0 true false which results in;

{
       "name" : "asset",
       "assetref" : "3130-266-11667",
       "qty" : 100.00000000
},

The same result for Node-B is returned when supplying true for the final parameter i.e.

gettotalbalances 0 true true

All commands were issued through the MultiChain CLI using:

"version" : "1.0 alpha 19",
"protocolversion" : 10005,

Is this the expected behaviour for watch only addresses? I was expecting to see the same result (balance) on both nodes when the final parameter (includeLocked) is false.

importaddress problem

Hi,

I'm trying to do a multi signature transaction:

Funding txn: buyer -> multisign address

Spending txn: multisign address -> seller

Naturally, multisign address is created with both buyer and seller public keys.

However when I create and send funding txn on the chain, the seller cannot see this transaction by using listtransactions command. The only way for him to check if the funding transaction is committed is to ask the txid from the buyer and use getrawtransaction command with the specified txid.

To make things easier I tried to add the multisign address to the seller's wallet (based on your suggestion) by using the importaddress command with rescan parameter set to true in order to rescan the entire local block database for transactions affecting any address or pubkey script in the wallet (including transaction affecting the newly-added address).

Unfortunately the funding txn is still not visible for the seller despite that the getaddresses command lists the multisign address correctly on the seller node.

Can you help me with this? (I'm using v11)

Thanks a lot
