Can't connect two nodes on different networks

I'm creating a chain using multichain-util, setting a username and password in multichain.conf, and then starting the daemon using multichaind chainname -rpcallowip=0.0.0.0/0 -daemon.

I receive the following output:

Starting up node...

Other nodes can connect to this node using:

multichaind chainname@172.20.10.0:7217

Node ready.

When trying to use multichaind chainname@172.20.10.0:7217 -rpcport=7216 -rpcuser=multichainrpc -multichainpass=pass from another computer I receive:

Error: Couldn't connect to the seed node 172.20.10.0 on port 7217 - please check multichaind is running at that address and that your firewall settings allow incoming connections.

I have tried turning firewalls off to no success. I can create two nodes and connect them successfully when they are using the same internet connection, but can't find what the problem is here.

I am using EC2 instances.

I installed multichiain in Node1 and everything works fine.

Then later I did the same in setup in Node2, once after modifying the inbound rules and giving rights to node2 in multichain.

I am able to connect, but connection is not complete, it got stuck as below for a long time.

Unable to retreive params in node2 as well.

ubuntu@ip-172-31-22-80:~$ multichaind chain1@172.31.41.67:9543

MultiChain Core Daemon build 1.0 alpha 26 protocol 10006

Chain chain1 already exists, adding 172.31.41.67:9543 to list of peers

Other nodes can connect to this node using:
multichaind chain1@172.31.22.80:9543

Node started

For e.g. One node is in NYC and other in Boston, what can I do to connect

I followed https://www.multichain.com/getting-started/ which helps me connect 2 nodes on same network

But if I try to connect nodes which are not in same network, than it shows me an error

Output:
MultiChain 1.0.2 Daemon (latest protocol 10009)

Retrieving blockchain parameters from the seed node 192.168.56.1:2693 ...
Error: Couldn't connect to the seed node 192.168.56.1 on port 2693 - please check multichaind is running at that address and that your firewall settings allow incoming connections.

Can nodes on the same blockchain communicate behind firewalls or nats?

If I have one multichain node at my house behind my home router with an IP address of 192.168.x.x and I have another multichain node on the same blockchain at a friend's house behind his home router, will they be able to communicate with each other without having public static IP addresses?
