Unable to connect second node to seed node – “Couldn’t connect to the seed node on port 4419”

Hi,

I’m currently setting up a MultiChain network (version 2.3.3 – protocol 20013) and facing an issue while connecting a secondary node to the seed node.

When I run the following command on the secondary node:

multichaind [chain-name]@[seed-node-ip]:[port-number] -datadir="E:\Multichain\nodes\SecondNode" -daemon

I receive this error:

Retrieving blockchain parameters from the seed node [seed-node-ip]:[port-number] ... Error: Couldn't connect to the seed node [seed-node-ip] on port [port-number] - please check multichaind is running at that address and that your firewall settings allow incoming connections.

Here are my setup details for context:

MultiChain version: 2.3.3 (Community Edition, protocol 20013)
Seed node IP: [seed-node-ip]
Port configuration: default-network-port = [port-number], default-rpc-port = [rpc-port]
OS: Windows Server on both nodes
Telnet test: Successful on port [port-number]
multichain.conf on seed node:

Despite these settings, the secondary node still cannot connect.

Could you please help me identify what might be causing this connection failure?
Do I need to modify any additional parameters (such as bind, externalip, or interface configurations) for Windows environments?

Error reading JSON Data from a stream

Hello,

I would like to store JSON data to a stream and read it again (what I have done successfully 1000 times before). Programming language is PHP (current version 7.x).

Data is from here https://covid19-dashboard.ages.at/data/JsonData.json
The data seems to be valid JSON, e.g. according to https://jsonlint.com/
(If I load the json with PHP function json_decode() is works, e.g. json_last_error() returns 0)

If I load the json to a stream using "publish" ($data=array('json' => $json) as always) it works, I receive a correct txid.
If I try to read it from the stream like "normal" JSON data (item['data']['json']) it does not work, because the data seems to be stored as binary data, e.g.

MultiChain Web Demo

I really love the Multichain web demo interface for its ease of use.

I was able to create a token, issue it to a few addresses, etc.

However, I encountered two issues:

1. It seems like anyone who goes to the URL can send themselves as many tokens from the administrator's account. How do you prevent that?

2. When #1 is done, I also noticed that when you keep hitting the F5 key to refresh the screen, the same amount of tokens keep being added to the receiver's account.

For example, I send 1000 tokens to someone's account. They now have 1000 tokens. If I press F5 to refresh the page, they now have 2000 tokens. Press F5 a third time, now they have 3000 tokens and so on.

How can I stop that from happening?

Why do I sometimes get a stream publish error ?

I have used Multichain for years, but all of a sudden I now (starting this morning, after an application restart) receive the following error from time to time:

"this transaction was rejected. This may be because you are sharing private keys between nodes, and another node has spent the funds used by this transaction."

I have two Multichain nodes sharing a private key. They write very little to the blockchain, at most once per second. I only get the error on one of the nodes (and never on the other node), on about 50% of all transactions.

I use Multichain version 1.0.8. The multichaind process has not been restarted for over a year.

Both nodes write to streams, and sometimes to the same stream. They only write one single-transaction at a time.

The written JSON is small, about 1KB.

Why do I get this error?

The error has been reported earlier (https://www.multichain.com/qa/15147/publish-data-error), but there seems to have been no resolution for that.

Sporadically receiving connection error when doing JSON RPC requests

Hello,

I made a web application which sends JSON RPC requests to a multichain node on the same server (localhost), the requests work correctly most of the time, except that in about 4% of the cases the request fails and the only error I have available is what the standard .net webrequest library tells me: "Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host." which should mean that for some reason multichain is closing down the connection while in the process of sending back a response.

I've been trying to debug this for a while without success, it may happen with any JSON RPC request and generally happens when there a bunch of requests in a short time (right now I'm doing tests with 1 second delay and it happens around the tenth consecutive request).

I don't know what's happening and how to debug it since it seems to be a problem on the side of multichain and one that happens only a small percentage of the time.

I tested on multichain community 2.0.3 but I had this happen even on 2.0.2.

What can I do to further investigate this situation?
Any idea on why it could be happening?

I have multichain running on 2 nodes on AWS and everything works perfectly fine. I've created a simple API (written in nodeJS) that returns 'getinfo' data. I'm using postman to make the request and it transmits fine when I'm at home however, when I connect my laptop to an external wifi I.e. coffee shop, mobile hotspot... I keep getting a 'Forbidden' error message.

I don't have the rcpallowip defined in the multichain.conf file but I did try adding it while I was at a coffee shop working remotely, still get the error message. Here is the function I'm running that returns the getinfo data:

I tried spinning up multichain-web-demo, I see values printed on web-page shows endian specific data, where-as same transactions when performed on multichain-cli yields accurate results i.e via sendasset . That said I have a query :

When values are key'd in, what command does https://github.com/MultiChain/multichain-web-demo/blob/master/page-issue.php#L103 perform i.e sendasset or something else ?
Also can you help point us to source that's leveraged in-order to perform the same ?

I create the blockchain with:

multichain-util create test-db \
-default-network-port=4000 \
-default-rpc-port=4001

Then I start the node with:

multichaind test-db -rpcallowip=0.0.0.0/0 -autosubscribe=streams -daemon

And I get the proper output, stating that the node has been started successfully and is ready. And when I want to make calls against the API, f.e.:

multichain-cli test-db getinfo

multichain-cli test-db -port=4000 -rpcport=4001 getinfo

I get "error: couldn't connect to server"

Hello, i'm developing blockchain for my final project.
and i've kinda problem about multichain-explorer that I deployed on a server.

I've done any tutorial for multichain-explorer installation on https://github.com/MultiChain/multichain-explorer
But i have an error about RPC connection.
The status on multichain-explorer webpages shows 'No Connection' (red labeled)
and the bottom of the web shows an error '('http protocol error', 0, 'got a bad status line', None)'
The console also keep showing this error:

Hi we have moved to older stable

1\) still as we crunch a file of 1.5 mb it stops the chain, we have to restart the chain again.

we have changed the params setting for 6 MB file.

2) Blocks are stuck at 133 blocks since the first breakdown, after restarting the chain the block count is not increasing.

Error reading config file

Having an issue where it's not reading the conf file properly for the port.

ERROR: reading configuration file: the options configuration file contains an invalid line 'port 2750'

I have the port I want written to the conf file which should just read by default as

port <num>

I don't see what makes this line invalid if it's the default thing written in it's own config file, it makes no sense.

importprivkey encoding error after upgrading version

Hi,

I attempted to upgrade from version 1.0.2 to 1.0.4. As part of the process I want to restore some of the addresses I had generated in version 1.0.2. I did this using the dumpprivkey and importprivkey commands. However when attempting to import on version 1.0.4 I got an error for invalid encoding.

I had a look at the release notes and couldn't see anything that suggested this changed. Below is a snippet of the commands I attempted with a new throwaway address for demo purposes:

Hi all,

Im trying to connect the webdemo to my main node. I currenty have the following config:

default.name=Default

default.rpchost=10.51.120.68
default.rpcport=4252
default.rpcuser=multichainrpc
default.rpcpassword=xxx
default.rpcallowip=10.51.120.86

When I start the node it says connect to multichaind chain1@10.51.120.86:4253

Params.dat mentions 4252 as default rpc port.

But Im still getting the error when statrting the web demo and I cant find and logs or clearer issues.

Is it also correct that every time that I start the node the ip of the node changes? Does that mean I have the reconnect every node every time I start it again? That doesnt seem likely.

Can anyone help me fix this issue?

I have started a "chain0" multichain. Completed many examples all running from command line (Windows 8.1). I am on machine_1 the one that started the -daemon and i can successfully connect on this from another machine_2.
The problem is when i try to use curl from machine_1. Every time the same error:

i have multichain.conf file and inside that file i have the rpcpassword property set.
As stated here in another message i have already used the help getinfo command.

We found an issue when trying to view an asset from the assets page of the explorer. When we click on one of our issued assets the explorer blows up, the error is:

Assets not visible after the simple transaction (within same node)

We are using Multichain with external keys storage, all transactions signed outside of the Multichain.

Just found a very strange Multichain behavior. After a simple transaction of sending assets from one wallet to another, the said assets became invisible for the getaddressbalances request for the period of up to 30 seconds.

1. getaddressbalances returns

2. We send 0.01 BTC to another wallet by using: createrawtransaction, sign, sendrawtransaction

3. After few seconds, getaddressbalances for the senders wallet returns

[{'name': 'XXX', 'assetref': '103-266-56344', 'qty': 99.0}]

As you can see, the BTC is completely disappeared from the results of the request.

4. After 15 to 20 seconds getaddressbalances returns

[{'name': 'XXX', 'assetref': '103-266-56344', 'qty': 99.0}, {'name': 'BTC', 'assetref': '260-267-49373', 'qty': 9.96}]

now, we can see, that 0.01 deducted and the result is fine.

So now, we are sending several getaddressbalances requests in case if one of the expected assets is not visible. But it's not the right way for the production.

It would be great to understand, why it happens and how to avoid this problem ?

I had to reboot main node of my multichain that's been running fine for many months. There were 20 nodes connected. After reboot I did the normal to fire up the chain again:

nohup multichaind chain1 -daemon &

But I now get the following error:

However, node 2 can connect fine and use API commands in interactive mode just fine. Node 1 is centralized API for our external systems so our block explorer, etc are not working now.

Node 2 and subsequent nodes connect just fine. Just node 1 is having the error.

I can go into interactive mode on node 1 as well but then I get errors:

I am getting the same problem again and again although I tried all solutions provided in previous questions. I am having no problem running and connecting two nodes on same computer(In different directories and on different ports) but on running two nodes on different computer is giving a error message. when I try to connect a new node (created on ubuntu Server) to a chain (that have been created on ubuntu desktop) using multichain web demo.

Random "previous output ScriptPubKey mismatch" Error

After creating a multisig transaction containing only metadata (no asset data), sometimes I randomly get a "previous output ScriptPubKey mismatch" error when I try to sign the transaction. Most of the time it works fine, but sometimes I get that error. Posted below is a screenshot of the error. decoded info is from decoderawtransaction. When signing, I am passing in the extra parameters (txid, vout, redeemScript, and scriptPubKey) along with the raw tx object from createrawsendfrom and the private keys. However, I am not sure if I am obtaining the extra parameters properly.

Here is my problem and would be great to hear any suggestion:

Background:

The MultiChain's version is the latest version.

Total two servers are Linux system. They are in the same LAN.

I created chain which named "chain1" and created stream which named "CQPBC-GZH" on server1.

I gave write/receive/send permissions of CQPBC-GZH to my server2 , then server2 subscribe stream CQPBC-GZH.

After that, I published data to stream CQPBC-GZH from server2. Because I must publish 1,000,000 data to the stream, I writed a shell which created 100 threads to do that simultaneously.

Result:

All the 1,000,000 data used 10 hours to be published to stream CQPBC-GZH, only 27.7 per second.

And some errors occured during the Publish, which shown below:

1. error: no response from server , 50 times

2. error: couldn't connect to server, 638901 times

3. send successfully. 361049 times

The result is not good enough, I wonder why the publish rate is so slow and why so many errors happen.

I got a command to connect to it:

multichaind chain1@XXX.XX.XX.XXX:8080

Run the above command in local system and got error message like:

"Error: Couldn't connect to the seed node XXX.XX.XX.XXX on port 8080 - please check multichaind is running at that address and that your firewall settings allow incoming connections."

Note: Vice-versa is connecting successfully.

Anyone knows how to fix it?

Node 1 : Windows machine.

Node 2 : Ubuntu machine.

I tried to give persmission to the second as specified in the documentation by command

"multichain-cli chain3 grant 1fJan1FJVsRJY2mwAZ7BRZQDNJY2RnUdeFGfo connect,send,receive"

but i get an error stating: could'nt connect to server. Please enlighten on this and help.

Firewall is off in windows and cmd is in admin mode.

I get this error. I followed the exact same build notes as the github. Ob ubuntu 14.04 64bit. But I get this error:

multichain-util: error while loading shared libraries: libboost_system.so.1.54.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
